"Plastics Gate 33"

About: Southmead Hospital

I felt a bit down reading some of the reviews here so felt the need to counter them with some positive feedback. Came in for reconstructive surgery following breast cancer. Stayed in for a week. Received care of the highest order. Wonderful staff evidently really busy but took the time to make sure I was ok always treated with respect and dignity. The individual rooms seem to make the nurses jobs more difficult as it must take a lot more time to deal with everyone. The cleaning staff did an impeccable job the room was spotless at all times. Housekeeping staff so friendly and helpful. The nurses on 33 do an incredible job which I dont think is appreciated. There was only one time when a nurse who wasnt my usual one was a little brusque but think they were rushed off their feet. Apart from that angels all of them. My 10 hour surgery and aftercare very specialised would not hesitate in recommending Southmead for the procedure. Wonderful consultant who explained everything. Anaesthetist calmed me down and made me feel safe and confident. Loved the fact that my mum and daughter could go and grab a coffee in the foyer in a pleasant environment that was not depressing or energy sapping!! Only downside is single rooms can be a little isolating but thats not the fault of the staff also a TV would have been nice but again out of their control. I felt grateful that I was fortunate enough to be able to recieve such treatment on the NHS in such a lovely environment.

Dear Claire – thank you for posting the details of your positive experience. I was very pleased to learn of your excellent care. Your views will be fed back to the staff on Gate 33. The lack of TV and radio systems is unfortunate, and stems from the fact that use of personal computing tablets meant it was not cost effective to install the usual beside entertainment systems. However, Wi-Fi has now been made available and we are looking at rental opportunities for patients without their own devices Thank you again for your positive comments. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
