"disappointed at lengthy wait and lack of staff..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

I attended a & e last Thursday night with my baby son who had suffered a burn to his leg. Whilst we were seen by a helpful and informative triage nurse within the hour (not as quick as I'd have liked but I appreciate they were busy). However the overall treatment time was at least 4.5 hrs and given the relative simplicity of treatment needed it seems ridiculous that it took as long as it did. My main concern was tthatwe were seen by at least 5 different medica professionals in my son's treatment which was completely unnecessary and added to the time it took. In addition to the triage nurse, we saw a junior doctor, who asked exactly the same questions ass the triage nurse! We then had to ask a nurse for the necessary pain medication which was supplied. We were then seen by a more senior doctor (briefly) who was excellent but didn't actually do anything. To carry out the process of cleaning the burn (removing the blister) we had to wait to see another nurse, and then (unbelievably) had to wait again for a different nurse to dress the wound ( holding an understandably upset and screaming baby)! All in all we were asked the same questions several times and I did not feel communication between staff was good at all. Generally very disappointed with the experience, in contrast to my experiences with other departments in the hospital.
