"Eye Hospital Appointments"

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

Had an appointment in march 2014, the consultant wanted to see me again in three months in June . I am still waiting, Been down to the clinic three times to try and find out what is going on but so far not had a satisfactory explanation exept it appears the consultants now have no control over the appointment system, which to me seems inferior to the previous one where appointment could be made at the desk. I would like to know when I will be receiving an appointment.

We are very sorry to receive your concerns via the NHS Choices website about your difficulties in getting an appointment at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, and the length of time you have been waiting. The Hospital has experienced unprecedented growth in demand across all ophthalmology specialities and as a result we are not always able to offer patients an appointment within the timescales we would ideally like.

Appointments are only made at the reception desk on the day of the previous appointment if they are required in less than 6 weeks. This is to prevent all future appointments becoming fully booked, leaving no clinic capacity for urgent or short notice appointments.

We hope that by the date of this response you will have received and completed your follow up appointment.

It is very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without knowing which waiting list you are on and which consultant you are waiting to see. It would therefore be helpful if you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk and they will be happy to take your details and pass these on to the management team of the outpatients department who can help to address your concerns in more detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this.
