I would not want to be taken ill and have to go to this hospital. My mum has been admitted on a number of occasions over the last 3 years, due to heart attacks and various other health issues. To say the standard of care is appalling is an understatement. Her last admission was yesterday, she was admitted for observation, this was a joke. She was put in a cubicle, which was dirty, there were tiles missing from the ceiling with what looked like cable hanging out. No observations were done all day, in fact throughout the day the only person that looked in on her was the tea lady. None of the staff knew what medication she was allowed to take as they ended up with two sets of notes. She had to remind the nursing staff that she was meant to be having a blood test so the results could be assessed to see if any more medication was required. She was seen by a doctor at about 5pm who said she could go home and would get the discharge paperwork sorted out. From 5pm until 9.15 pm we sat waiting for said paperwork, when we kept questioning how long we would be, the nurse on duty was very standoffish and said the doctor was with a critically ill patient and he wouldn't be called away, which angered me and my mum, because every patient on the ward was ill and what was the doctor going to do stand over his patient all night. Eventually after my mum threatening to sign herself out they got a doctor to do the paperwork that was required. And to add insult to injury the nurse that was suppose to be looking after my mum said to her "I hope you was happy with the care I gave you", well the answer to that is no, because she didn't give my mum any care she never checked on her once throughout the whole day. For all they knew she could have been laid dead on her bed, considering she deteriorates very quickly. I know if I ever suffered the ill health my mum is doing I would say DNR on my paperwork because I wouldn't want treating at this hospital. She was on the Acute Medical Unit.
"I would not want to be ill."
