Mum had an ileostomy and treatment in Ayr Hospital. Her care at times was excellent and at other times poor. Over the last eight months she has more or less been in hospital and in numerous wards. She suffered delirium and the constant moving caused extreme confusion.
She was sent to Biggart hospital where she was to have rehab unfortunately in the ward she was admitted to her stoma care was nonexistent and her skin was compromised, resulting in poor adherence of her stoma bag. The bag was often full or burst leaving her in a mess which was distressing. She then fell and broke her hip and returned to Ayr. Care in ward 10 was good until her transfer back to Biggart when we had been telling staff something was wrong with her for around a week but this was dismissed and there was no requirement for medical assessment. Mum was really ill when she was admitted to Lyndsey Ward Biggart Hospital.
I can safely say since her transfer the staff have made a great difference to her care, her physical health has improved and her outlook is becoming brighter. She no longer tells us she wishes she was dead and does not want to be here. Her stoma care has been great and we are now hopefully seeing her getting her strength back and looking forward to her coming home. I would like to say a genuine thank you to the staff of Lyndsey Ward for their dedication and care shown towards mum and treating her with proper due care and attention as we all deserve. The difference you have made to this 83 year old lady is immeasurable.
It gives me faith that there are good nurses out there who do care keep up the good work and be aware of the difference you make to patients and their families.
