I fell on uneven ground while out walking my dog. I was brought into A&E in August after a fall when out walking.
An x-ray confirmed a fracture. As I could not manage crutches and was alone at home I was admitted to Easton. Unfortunately I had to wait until 7pm the following day to have my ankle plastered as plaster room was so busy and as I hadn't been seen by physio who finish at 4.30 I had to stay in a further night. It wasn't until late that day that I was eventually discharged I did feel that I was a bit of a bed blocker.
The nursing care was very good tho I felt they were over stretched especially the day when there was one staff nurse and one healthcare assistant. There was a young healthcare assistant who was fantastic, helping the elderly eat and anticipating commodes etc.
Unfortunately I had to return on bank holiday Monday as pain had worsened. I was met by Mark Hohn in the plaster room, honestly to call him a tech is an insult. He is fantastic dealing brilliantly with kids and anxious parents, confused elderly patients etc. He has a wealth of knowledge and gives great advice, seriously better than I've ever had from any orthopedic doc and I have met dozens of them in my life.
I was there from 11 - 3.30 and although ortho agreed I needed better pain relief the pharmacy was closed. It is a 24hr hospital and that is a ridiculous scenario.
