"Literally tears of gratitude..."

About: Leeds Dental Hospital

I want to be clear. I'm not a review writer. But this place helped me at a time when I was so desperate, they probably don't realise how much it meant to me. Having just put down a deposit for a flat in Leeds I had resolved to tough it out for two weeks till payday with little money, and then disaster struck. A severe toothache which quickly became an abscess of impressive proportions. People were staring at me in the street! I had no money to pay for it privately, I had no NHS dentist registered in Leeds yet, 111 wanted to send me to far flung places that would cost an arm and a leg to get to, in short, it seems that if you have no money in the UK, as far as dental work and acute pain go, you don't count. After five days of agony (over a bank holiday weekend) I was breaking down. I was constantly on the verge of tears, unable to speak, couldn't eat, sleeping two - three hours per night, and the infection was just getting worse. Around my eye socket had swollen, my jaw, cheekbones and my cheek itself looked like I had a grapefruit inside it. I have never felt so low, alone, in pain or desperate. In the end I took a chance and walked down to the Teaching Hospital, not expecting any luck because it was outside term time so there were no students. The young lady on reception straight away called for a nurse who was lovely. She told me it would be alright and they would get this sorted. I literally wept with gratitude. I was told to come back in an hours time for the two pm surgery. Seen almost straight away by a chap. I can only presume this man runs the place as he was outstanding in every single way. Totally kind, reassuring, knowledgeable, talked you through what the situation was, was the options were, and how things were going. This guy managed to extract a large molar when even the pain killing injections were almost unbearable due to the abscess swelling and infection. Look, I don't need to say anymore other than The Leeds Teaching Hospital Dental Institute went far and above what was required of them. They treated me with kindness, professionalism and dignity. And for that I truly thank them.

Dear PG Thank you for taking the time to compliment the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the Leeds Dental Hospital. I was very pleased to read that they were able to help you at such a distressing time. I hope you are making a good recovery and I will ensure that your kind comments are forwarded to the staff concerned. With kind regards Lisa Fisher Senior Nurse Patient Experience
