"Puffin and Sunflower Wards"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

My son broke his arm earlier this week and was admitted to Puffin ward overnight in preparation of having the fracture set under GA the following day. I was very impressed by all the staff on both Puffin and Sunflower wards especially Abbie (I think) on Sunflower. They worked well together as a team, were friendly and reassuring and very responsive to requests for pain relief and toast (!) for my son. Both wards were spotless as were the parent facilities. I was also impressed by the range of toys available for the children, and how helpful the play assistants were. Thanks you also to the teams in ED and the Surgical team who put my son back together and helped keep him as pain free as possible during the entire procedure.

Many thanks for providing us with your very kind comments regarding your son's recent visit and stay in our Hospital. The staff try very hard to provide all our patients with a high standard of care and we were very pleased to hear that you felt this aim was achieved on this occasion. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with the staff in the the areas you have mentioned as I am sure they also will be very appreciative of your comments. Once again, many thanks for taking the time to provide us with this important feedback of your experience and may I also take the opportunity on behalf of the Trust to wish your son a speedy and full recovery and indeed, all your family, very best wishes for the future. Kind regards Deborah Furness, on behalf of the Patient Experience Team for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
