"Positive experience"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

I sustained an injury, which I found out later was a broken wrist, in a cycling sportive on Sunday, August 10. I entered the A & E department that afternoon. At Reception I was met with efficiency and good humour. These attitudes were evident through triage, radiography, diagnosis and the initial treatment I received that afternoon. At all stages I got full explanations of the options available to me and the treatment I would receive. Later that afternoon, on leaving, I was pleasantly surprised to be told to be ready to return next day for surgery. I was astonished to get a phone call at 10:30 that night informing me to present myself at the main reception early next morning for surgery. On my return I experienced the same care, efficiency and professionalism in the Day Surgery Department from all the staff. I thought the anaesthetic options were explained fully and I found the processes (on which I received almost a running commentary) fascinating - at least they were until I my concentration faded! My surgeon gave me a full exposition on what he was going to do (which amazed me) and what steps I should take after the operation. I saw the same level of care in Recovery, indeed the patience of the nurses there went far above and beyond what one would have expected in, what I considered to be, extremely trying circumstances. I regret to say I felt shamed by my own reactions. I would like to add some context. This was all on the day with the additional pressures of foul weather and a very large sporting event in the vicinity. My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff who treated me but also to those who set and maintain the caring ethos which is so evident at your hospital.
