"Nurses rushed off their feet"

I had to stay in ward 24 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for eleven days because of my diabetes. One morning I rang the bell to ask if I could have help because I am locked by arthritis of the spine (I was flat on my back). The nurse who eventually came poked her head in my door, and before I had the chance to explain, she said, "you're not crushing the bones in my hand". She then shut the door after shutting off the call light. As a retired SRN SCM, I am disgusted I was left on a commode for one hour. Also a further half an hour on the toilet another time. All staff who answer the call light, dash in (a single room) switch off the light and say, "I'll be back" and disappear for an hour or two or even go off duty without coming back. There do not seem to be enough nursing staff on the ward. They are rushing around always trying to catch up with the work load. So some patients get left. My bed was not made for three days. Yet the day I was told to go home the bed was stripped and made with clean linen. Later, all that bedding was discarded because a first year student nurse had not been told I was going home.
