"Appalling"

About: Leighton Hospital

My husband has a heart condition and high blood pressure. Having had strong palpitations and feeling very off balance, and no remaining medication, we drove over to A and E to see the GP. On arrival the gentleman at the GP desk referred us straight to the A and E desk saying my husband may need 'testing'. We sat for only an hour but were then beckoned from the other side of a door. It was at this point that I thought the female nurse wasn't going to be at all understanding. She didn't even look at us. My husband was asked to sit and take off his jumper. She spoke down to him agitatedly saying 'so you've come here cos you've got high blood pressure? There's nothing I can do for you. We don't even stock what you need. Where should you have gone?' Both completely shocked, my husband... not child as you would assume having been spoken to so underminingly, responded saying 'I've been to the GP but he sent me to you'. She went on to comment awkwardly that he, at the GP desk, didn't know what he was talking about. This attitude continued until my husband took off the heart and blood rate monitors, stood and said he no longer would waste her time. I understand that these nurses have incredibly strenuous workloads and that they do an incredibly difficult job, however the particular nurse's attitude towards us was nothing short of appalling. Not once did she enquire about anything. She had spoken to my husband as though he was completely and utterly stupid and as though we were set out at midnight on a quiet bank holiday Sunday to purposefully annoy her. Completely disgusted and in utter disbelief. As a teacher, if I was to conduct myself the way she chooses to 'educate the public' I would soon be out of a job. I quote 'educate the public' as she said that was what she was doing with us. In fact, she aught to educate the guy sat comfortably at the GP desk.
