"the excellent treatment i received at tameside "

About: Tameside General Hospital / Oncology

(as the patient),

In June I attended the woman's health clinic to see Dr H Stockman. I am 71yrs old and had been loosing blood from my from my vagina. Dr Stockman decided to give me a scan but after the 3rd attempt I was so sore she decided to stop and said she would prefer to investigate further as she was not happy. Three days later I was admitted for a Hysterectomy and endothelial biopsy I had to be put to sleep for this. When I came round Dr Stockman said she would phone me and talk through the results with me. I thought this was so nice made me feel important. 11 days later Dr Stockman phoned me to say I had cancer of the womb she talked to me and then my husband she said I had taken it very well but she then said she wanted to see if it had spread outside the womb so she arranged for me to have an MRI san. this was arranged for the early July. she referred me to an oncologist Debbie Beadle if I had any worries Debbie was really helpful she said if the family wanted to talk to her then they could get it touch with her. she explained that I would have a full Hysterectomy and that they thought my cancer was at stag 1A.

A week later I went to see D Gilmour also Debbie Beadle was present. Dr Gilmour explained to me what was going to happen he asked me if I wanted to go on the Enhanced Recovery Program where they had you in and out with in 4 days they got you out of bed on the 2nd day so you would not have blood clots and they showed you breathing exercises to do and pelvic floor and the sooner you came out of hospital this prevented you from getting any infection. I decided to go ahead with this and arranged for my post op the following day and my operation was to be 5 days later and was hoping to go home on the 3 days after that.

Before my operation Debbie gave me lots of information to take home and read this was so helpful. While I was in hospital Dr Gilmour came every morning to see how I was progressing. He said that every thing that was taken from me would go in-front of the MDT team and I would receive a letter to see him to discuss my results. All the nursing staff were excellent.

came Home on the planned date and four weeks later I saw Dr Gilmour and Debbie to discuss my results. Dr Gilmour said they had found cancer cells on my cervix so he me to see Dr Livsey at Christie' to discuss me having Radiology and that he would see me in 2 months time.

My oncologist Debbie took me to her room to explain in detail what might happen and if I had any worries at all whether is was about my cancer or anything else I was to ring her.

I have been overwhelmed at how fast Tameside Hospital have handled all this so quickly I did not have time to sit and think about it which was great. Tameside hospital and your excellent Doctors have saved my life I now await to go to Christie's fingers crossed.
