We were first visited by our community matron in 2006 at the request of our GP. At that time my wife had been discharged from hospital after three weeks as an inpatient, after being admitted following several falls. Immediately our community matron was most helpful and encouraging. In no time at all, she had authorised and caused to be installed several aids both inside and outside the property to assist my wife's movement. She followed up everything and advised us how we could best try to ensure that there were no further falls and luckily there hasn't been. She has visited regularly since then and has carried out routine checks on my wife’s health and well being. In the care plan file we have her mobile number which ensures an immediate response from herself or one of her team. We feel that the community matron service is perhaps one of the best that the NHS has initiated because it provides continuing support and helps to keep my wife out of hospital. After several visits in 2006 we have had the community matron visit four times in 2007 and three times in 2008. Long may the community matron service continue.
