"Hospital overall impression."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

I suffered a fall late in the afternoon on Monday 18 August causing an obvious wrist injury. My husband took me to Medway Maritime, arriving at A&E at 6.0 pm. I was checked in quickly and immediately directed to X ray. Within 20 minutes I was seen and it was established that I had incurred a complicated Colles fracture. After an encouragingly short wait I was further examined and had the injury manipulated and a plaster cast applied. I then had a further X ray. I have detailed these stages because all of this was achieved by 7.45pm. Unfortunately the extent of the complications indicated that plate and pin surgery would be subsequently required. A member of the Orthopaedic staff gave a detailed explanation of the process to be followed and I returned home. The next day, following a telephone conversation with the Orthopaedic department, I was advised to attend by midday for admission. The operation took place in the afternoon, I stayed overnight and was able to leave next morning. I am aware that hospitals, including Medway, receive a degree of criticism. I am also happy to be able to express my total satisfaction with all phases of my treatment from all staff. May I also single out the Nurse Specialist in Orthopaedics for her very clear and encouraging explanation of hospital policies and procedures. The staff in Sunderland ward were also particularly attentive and supportive. My whole experience was one of speed, efficiency, friendliness and respect and no loss of dignity. Many thanks to all involved at Medway Maritime.

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your recent patient experience whilst under the care of the orthopaedic department, and we are delighted that you have had a positive experience throughout your patient journey. I have shared your comments with all of the departments and ward involved in your care and they very much appreciate your feedback. We hope that you are recovering very well since your discharge.
