"Eye Clinic appointment cancelled"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I received yet another yellow letter cancelling a forthcoming outpatient appointment. This time it stated Do not turn up as no Doctors available! No further appointment given as waiting for Directorate Manager for further booking. I have seen no one for six months and no one has checked whether laser surgery was good bad or actually indifferent.

I have raised AST in blood tests. Glaucoma eye drops?

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your recent appointment cancellation.

I am sorry to hear that your apppointment was cancelled. I have spoken with the senior management in this area regarding the issues you have raised, to try and get a better understanding of what is happening in this area.

They have explained that due to NICE guidance, there are many more new referrals coming through from our Community Optometrists and the patients previously managed by these Optometrists are now having to return to the hospital for futher treatment. We also currently have one vacant Consultant post, which we are working to fill.

Please be reassurred we are working hard to rectify these issues.
