"My mums stay in hospital"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (King's Lynn)

My mother was admitted to the hospital this Monday to have her ovaries taken out and with the possibility of having a full hysterectomy. After her operation she had to wait for hours before she received any medication even though she was in a large amount of pain. She was also never told what she had done to her as no one would tell her nor my family. When the anaesthetist finally came round he looked at her notes and said it looked like she'd had a hysterectomy but he wasn't sure. This was the only time my mother received any sort of medication. During her stay not one person came to speak to her about what she had actually had done. She was then discharged today without any doctor or medical professional coming to see her so we still don't actually know what my mother has had done. She was also only given paracetamol to take home with her which obviously hasn't numbed her pain at all. I feel that not only has this been a traumatic time for my mother but it has also been very disconcerting for my family. Especially as I actually work for the Trust and before this experience I was very protective of it. The 2 main issues I have with this experience was 1. My mother didn't receive the correct amount of pain relief for what she had had done and 2. That no one came to speak to my mother to tell her what had been done to her and was discharged without a doctor talking to her.

I am very disturbed to read your comment. I am sorry that you felt your mother had a poor experience as a patient and that you felt unable to raise the issues at the time with one of the senior nurses, who would have welcomed the opportunity to address these matters at once.
