I was a day patient on Ward 20 on 7th August 2014 after visiting the ward the previous week for pre operative assessment. The staff were fantastic from the moment I came through the doors with the very friendly receptionist. The nursing staff were wonderful, nothing was a bother to my named nurse and also a student nurse who with my consent followed my progress through the day. My consultant came to see me on the ward as did the anaesthetist before theatre to give me an opportunity to ask any questions or voice any concerns. The anaesthetist and his team were great at putting me at ease before I underwent my procedure. I woke up in recovery being well looked after again and returned to the ward about 35 minutes later where the staff couldn't do enough again for me. Never be afraid to ask for anything, everyone just wanted to help. After a few hours rest I was able to get out of bed, dressed and go home. Take something to read, depending on where you are on the list you can be waiting a couple of hours before you get changed for surgery. It was a little cool in the 1st waiting area due to the air con so if you feel the cold take a jumper. The 2nd area where you waited to be called to surgery was single sex, warmer and there was also a TV. The ward was very clean and tidy. I wish I'd made a list of things I'd have liked to ask about my surgery as after the procedure I forgot to ask when the consultant visited (probably due to the effects of medication). 2 weeks on and I'm making great progress, I am so pleased I had the surgery and have not suffered any complications. If I ever find myself in the position where I had to undergo surgery again I would want to come back to Bishop Auckland hospital. I was treated like a princess. Thank you all again!
