I was admitted with e coli following an inspection by my GP. I was confused during my stay by having so many different doctors, nurses, care staff and O.Ts seeing me every day. I use a mobility aid as I have balance problems but it took over a week and my daughter stepping in to say something for one to be provided, supposing I had experienced a fall during this time ? Once I had a zimmer frame it kept being moved out of my reach especially at night which made going to the toilet difficult. My daughter had to remind staff why I needed it. Some of my visitors were told I was being barrier nursed and made to wear an apron while others were just allowed to walk in and out with no protection including my nearest relatives. Incontinence pants from the night were left on my bed all day along with my soiled nightwear. They were still there in the evening when my daughter came to visit. My bed was often not made or checked. The evening meal was late and sometimes I was only just eating when my visitors arrived. My daughter who is my next of kin was treated poorly when on the phone from Switzerland and was not told how I was or what was wrong with me. No attempt was made to verify who she was so that she could be told anything despite the great distance involved. She was told she would have to come in ! Once my daughter did arrive there were different staff on the desk every time and when she went to speak to anyone several people just ignored her and walked away, no one seemed to know what was going on or want to involve her despite her being my next of kin. When I was discharged nobody spoke to me about how I was getting home. I tried to let them know that my daughter would come or me but was not sure if the person who I told took any notice and this was a fairly common experience in general during my stay. I arranged for my daughter to pick me up but in the mean time two ambulance men appeared suddenly and said they would take me there and then. No one let me know beforehand that this would happen and I was worried that my daughter would still drive in to get me. My legs swelled up because my medication was changed and the tablet to control it was cancelled. This is distressing me. I do not wish to return to this ward please. It was 9B if that helps.
