"Parking was very easy and parking ..."

About: St Albans City Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Parking was very easy and parking lot well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nurses coming off shift v. happy to assist me to get to the unit.

Once arrived was greeted warmly and seen promptly. All staff were very reassuring.

What could be improved

Signage to the day surgery unit was abit confusing. More prominent signage needed, especially as it's quite a complicated route to get to the unit - not very accessible either. Privacy was abit of an issue as the unit was mixed - the curtain did not offer much protection I felt quite overlooked as had men either side of me and opposite me too which was quite uncomfortable. The visitors chairs were not very clean. After surgery the unit felt alittle understaffed as it was quite difficult to attract help as the few nurses that were there seem quite overstretched. The nurses although incredibly busy were very friendly and warm and gave you their undivided attention when you were eventually senn to. They also seemed happy in their work too.

Anything else?

I had recently had sugery at Central middlesex ACAD so made sure I came prepared with dressing gown & pyjamas (I did forget my slipers) the information I was sent prior to my surgery could have been better - ACAD had a well informed leaflet included with the appointment letter. I think this would of prepared me for a mixed sex unit and to let me know what to expect.
