"Hysteroscopy: investigation and surgery"

I was referred to St George's after visiting an IVF clinic who's full fertility MOT indicated I needed a surgery to remove a septum dividing my uterus. This was after already being discharged from NHS care concerning trying to conceive at my more local hospital. It did take a long time to get an appt despite a lot of chasing, 6 mths, although this is not specific to St George's and nothing new to me. I was concerned initially that the named consultant I was referred to wasn't the person I saw and thought I would end up passed from one to another and constantly re explaining my situation. However, the consultant was very skilled and personable and was also the only person I saw from start to finish, including the surgery itself. I was also grateful that when the initial procedure indicated I definitely needed the surgery the appt diary in front of her opened immediately and was booked on the spot. I don't think I would've had the energy for more waiting and may have decided against going any further. On all the occasions I was at the hospital (hysteroscopies, mri scan, blood tests, pre assessment and the surgery) I was impressed that all the hospital staff patiently explained exactly where you needed to go, exactly what you needed to do. I personally find it stressful if even little details like how far undressed you need to be and what's going to happen aren't clearly explained. I was always relieved never to be doubtful. Post surgery the team were brilliant, as I did experience some ill effects from a necessary dose of heavy duty painkillers. I remember counting 5 people around me at one point constantly checking I was ok. I was also happy that I didn't need to pay a prescription for simple drugs like painkillers and antibiotics made necessary by the various procedures, whereas I did at my local hospital. I have suffered no ill effects from the removal of the septum, which healed perfectly and I feel I have been well looked after and that everything has been thoroughly investigated, diagnosed and corrected so that we can continue our attempt to conceive without obstacle and more importantly, with hope. The only situation I was unhappy about was the recovery lounge same sex accommodation. I was embarrassed to discover on using the loo that due to the nature of gynaecological surgery and my spending longer there because I came over unwell I had a large stain through my dressing gown. Difficult to feel dignified when you know it would have been observed by the young men sat in the area adjacent.
