"Total knee replacement surgery"

About: Royal Orthopaedic Hospital

My mom is day 3 post op following TKR and I am very upset with the way my mom has been made to feel. She feels as though she is a burden to the nursing staff on the wards due to their behaviour towards her when she asks for assistance. She has been left for long periods waiting for her buzzer to be answered and then told off when she rings again to chase up her request. I understand that they are busy but that doesn't mean my mom should suffer. This is day 3 and she has only seen a physio once and is supposed to be going home day 4. She has been in terrible pain and has asked twice for a doctor to review her pain relief but 19 hours later we are still waiting to hear the outcome. I think it's disgusting she has been left like this. And unfortunately she is due to have the same operation on her other knee later this year.

Dear Anonymous, I am very sorry to learn of your concerns about your Mom's care and treatment. Can you please contact either myself or my colleague Michelle French in the Public and Patient Services department so we can see what help and support we can provide to you with the assistance of the ward team. We can be contacted on 0121 685 4128 or via email at roh-tr.pals@nhs.net. Alternatively if you feel able to do so please do raise your concerns with the Senior Sister or Ward Manager who will be more than happy to listen and make things right. with best wishes and look forward to hearing from you Claire Williams, Patient Relations Manager
