My 82 year old Mum was admitted to NGH as an emergency in June 2014 with pneumonia. Mum's existing health conditions were heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mum received excellent care, from the A&E team and on Brearley 4 Ward for 10 days. The staff maintained their professional and courteous manner in a very busy environment and were always willing to provide updates to family members on Mum's condition and progress.
She was then transferred to St. Luke's Hospice, Sheffield for palliative care, where she died in July. What can I say about St. Luke's? A fantastic environment with high quality care and attention to the small details which can make end of life care comfortable and personal. The clinical care and the hospitality and support services were excellent, provided in a warm and caring way by everyone and extremely supportive of the family and friends visiting Mum.
My Mum's condition meant that she was very frightened living alone - she was very much reassured by all the care she received in the last month of life and felt safe and secure - we couldn't have asked for more.
"We couldn't have asked for more for my Mum"
