"My experience on WardB2 at Rotherham General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I attended Rotherham General Hospital Orthopaedic clinic for a bilateral metatarsal osteotomy. The best things about how I was treated were on the night shift (17/10/08 to 18/10/08) where the staff were absolutely fantastic and very caring. I would like to see them praised by senior staff. Although the serving of breakfast and dinner was not organised . This could have been made better as I was left out and I had to remind them as they walked away to which the reply was sharp and blunt. I was not given any bread, butter or milk. I was made upset at one point because I asked for a sick bowl as the one I had was full to the brim. They didn't pull up the curtains when I was being sick with everybody looking. Also the response to the buzzer on early shifts took a long time to respond. There was also a male staff member on the ward who was very abrupt and another patient thought he was mardy. A lady in the bed next to me wanted attention for her back and the nurse replied that she wasn't his patient as there was an imaginary line down the ward where the left side was his; he didn't do the right hand side as that was the staff nurse. I also overheard the staff discussing other patients and making jokes.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience on this website. I am pleased that you found the night staff very caring although I am sorry to read of your concerns regarding other aspects of your stay on the ward.

Please be assured that I have passed your comments to the Matron for the Orthopaedic department who has expressed concern and assured me that she will be speaking with the ward team.

Thank you once again for your post.
