"A&E visit with my 2 year old son"

On Monday 4th August 2014 my son fell poorly with high temperature (39 degrees but no other symptoms). I gave him some ibuprofen and he went to bed quite happy. He woke up two hours late, he was choking on his vomit, his bed was heavily cover with the vomit and he was not very responsive. I checked his temperature and it plummeted to 40 degrees(only 3 hours after having the ibuprofen)! I rang 111 and they advised me to take him to A&E immediately. Before leaving for hospital I gave my some paracetamol but he was severely sick. At that point I was also very conscious of him becoming dehydrated very quickly and not being able to bring his temperature down with medicine being brought back up. We went to A&E and got to pediatrics A&E waiting area (10 pm). We were there for an hour and not even a nurse came to see us!! Nothing. No one checked his temperature, his pulse, no nothing! I know there were few children waiting (5 including us) but how long can you wait! I asked how long we needed to wait for the doctor and I was told around 3 hours (we were there already 1 hour with a 2 years old with very high temperature!). At that point I decided to take my child home. I was asked to sign a form to state that is was my responsibility and my decision to take my son home, against the advice I received-sorry what advice? For all you know my son could have gone into fit with such a high temperature and yet no one decied to check his temperature. And I am not taking an excuse that you were busy. For an hour we sat there only one person went to see…the nurse. Some parents were waiting there more than 4 hours! Absolutely appaling. Next time I will ring an ambulance. Makes you wonder what is it we pay our national insurance for!! And for your information- I bought some electrolytes in pharmacy, gave to my son, so he wouldn’t dehydrate. And tried with paracetamol. He wasn’t sick so it worked but his temperature is still high (at around 39). To be honest I think I can get better advice of Google than from doctors in UK…shocking!
