"An unexpected visit to the hospital"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

I had an accident on Sunday 27th July as I was leaving my daughters house, the dog made a dash to get to my husband and I was holding the lead. I didnt let go of the lead and ended up falling over and bumping my head and also dislocated my elbow. The ambulance service were quick to respond and I was taken to A&E where i was dealt with straight away..my family were with me and at all times were kept up to speed with what was happening to me.The young doctor spoke to me at all times as though I was the most important person, slowly explaining and checking that I understood. I was treated there and then transferred to X-ray and MRI and then to theatre where my arm was treated and put in a cast. I was then transferred to Ward A5 where the nurse looked after me even though it was by now the early hours of the morning I was put into a bed and made comfortable. Next morning the nurse came and took me to the bathroom where she gave me toiletries and a toothbrush so that I could freshen up..and a hospital gown. She sat wih me and explained that a doctor would come as I would need to return to theatre so that the wound could be washed out as it had penetrated the skin and also some tendons need to be reattached, becase I knew I was less frightened. during the day I was monitored constantly and just after 2.00pm was taken back to theatre. the procedure was completed and I was left to rest . At about 5.00pm I was told that I may be able to go home if I could eat a little toast.I did and my husband collected me. I attended a follow up appointment with the doctor today and had the plaster and heavy sling replaced by a light one. I can with hand on heart say that every single member of staff treated me with kindness and professionalism and I feel lucky that I was able to be sent to such a wonderful place.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices Website. Your comments will be forwarded to the staff in the Emergency Department and Ward A5, who I know are always appreciative when a patient gives such positive feedback. Kind regards The Patient Experience Manager
