"A&E to minor injuries to X-ray to minor injuries,a..."

About: Warrington Hospital

Attending A & E tonight with my mother, I think that the signage outside leaves a lot to be desired. Parking in the car park near the main entrance on Lovely Lane, it was not clear that as you get near the main entrance that there is a shorter route to A & E than traipsing through corridor after corridor. When you are walking with an elderly person with your head down because they need your attention and all you can see is Ambulance Entrance Only and a sign in the main entrance pointing to A & E, you follow it, little realising it's such a long walk. Once we got there the receptionist was quick and efficient, and the wait to see the triage nurse was long but not overly long. On being told to make our way to 'minor injuries', it was a good thing I asked how far it was and asked for a wheelchair because an injured person could have difficulty walking that far, and indeed my mother would have done. After waiting ages to see a doctor we then had to traipse back close to whence we came for an X-ray, and then back to 'minor injuries'. There was a notice on a desk in 'minor injuries' apologising for delays caused by the work in moving 'minor injuries'. I personally think the delays are caused by patients having to keep marching back and forth. When we were seen by the doctor/nurses/X-ray technician, they were all without exemption efficient, polite, and good at their job. The relocation of the minor injuries department was a definite disadvantage and nuisance for an elderly patient.

Thanks for leaving your comments. Sensible points around Minor Injuries location. We've expanded the main A&E department capacity and have had to move the minor injuries service to allow this. Although it's a relatively short walk down the corridor we understand that it can seem a long way back and forth if x-ray is required. It's something we're looking at and your feedback will help us to do this.
