"Great care at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre - but too many mobile phones!"

About: Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

In January I had the second stage of an ankle replacement operation in the Nuffield (Oxford). I was extremely well looked after, by the surgeons, anaesthetists and the nursing staff. I was only in hospital for 3 days and was encouraged to move and look after my self once the pain had subsided. The nurses and support staff in Cecil Randle ward looked after me with great care and consideration. After 6 weeks I feel no pain in my ankle, and although the leg is still in plaster, I am hopeful that the operation will give me some years of pleasurable walking. Thankyou to all at NOC.

One small suggestion: there were notices saying that mobile phones should not be used. But so far as I could see everyone was using them. One neighbouring patient had his going off at 2 and 3 in the morning (he was fast asleep but I was not). Since, in this day and age, everyone has mobile phones and they seemed to be in widespread use, perhaps the notice that they should not be used can be taken down. But, equally, patients might be discouraged from leaving them on at night, when others are trying to go to sleep!
