"an awful experience"

About: Prospect Park Hospital

My GP sent me for an assessment at Prospect Park It was a horrible experience from beginning to end. To start I had to wait for ages in reception which just added to my anxiety and I was in such a state by the time I was actually seen. I was close to leaving. I didn't get an apology or any acknowledgment of the distress that this had caused me. I was sat in a horrible, claustrophobic room with two staff. I felt uncomfortable and a bit threatened. The assessment was quite in depth but I thought a lot of what I felt was important was just dismissed or skipped over. At the end I wasn't told what to expect or when/how a decision would be made. I left the room feeling miserable. I was eventually told that I did not meet the criteria and so would not get any help. My GP had to contact Prospect Park on my behalf to get me the help that I desperately needed. I think that this is such a disgraceful way to treat vulnerable people. Throughout I felt like I was not taken seriously and generally was given the feeling that I was wasting people's time.

Hello, Thank you for your posting and I'm sorry that you found the assessment process to be unsatisfactory. You could have been provided with advocacy support which you may have found beneficial at the time. Can you contact me to discuss your experience in greater detail? I can then liaise with staff and provide you with a full response. Regards, Trevor Lyalle Patient Advice & Liaison Service Tel: 01189605027 e mail: trevor.lyalle@berkshire.nhs.uk
