"The nursing auxilliary in the ..."

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The nursing auxilliary in the theatre area who stayed with my whilst I waited for my surgery & the twp young obs & gynae doctors who worked well together as a team and were very apologetic for the inadequate care which I had received.

What could be improved

The nursing care was non existant. I was not cared for, nor given any support or explanation as to why my 'day case surgery' had become an overnight stay. Two hours after asking for help to go to the toilet (I was attached to a drip and uterine catheter) I was 'told off' by a nursing assistant for using the bell and told 'didn't I know they were short staffed'

Anything else?

Came to in the recovery room after my operation to hear the staff discussing the fact that there would soon be 3 patients recovering and only 1 nurse to look after them. 1 nurse was desperate to get home 'as her husband didn't like her not being there when he got home from work' and another agreed to stay over her time to care for the 3 of us. Needless to say by this time 6:15pm all the docotrs had gone home.
