My partner attended Ward 1 recently with a burst appendix. At first my only concern as you expect would be for her welfare and at first I didnt notice the lack of care by ward staff towards her. They say this kind of work is a vocation and you have to be a caring person or enjoy caring for people. I can only say that if that is the case then many of the staff on the ward need to work somewhere else maybe not with the public. I know it is a busy environment, but when you have to ask 4 or 5 times for simple things like water, food, bedding, or just asking for simple information from staff become a real task and when you ask again and again they either dont come near you not making eye contact or become rude by simply ignoring you. My partner went without pain relief one morning for 5 hours and the staff said they were waiting on the pain relief team to work out her needs Bed and patient clothing wet and blood soaked. I arrived and a nurse said i will change your bedding now - 2 hours went by and I had to ask again Breakfast - My partner doesnt eat cereals or yoghurts and the toaster was broken! The lady just walked off. Funny when the doctor said have you tried to eat something this morning. I must add this was only a little of the problems to be had. I do hope that someone on the Ward 1 reads this! A thought to leave you with not all staff should be tarnished with the same brush, but remember next time your caring for a patient that you should treat them like the way you or your family would like to be treated.
"Ward 1 care - dont get sick!"
