"A total waste of time and money"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as the patient),

Thank you for giving me 2 opportunities to feedback to you what a total waste of time and money this service is! !

This service should be cancelled – lets go back to the proper way of being referred to a consultant by your GP – who knows you much better than someone sitting in a call centre! !

All the TRAQS service does is delay your appointment at the hospital. I waited 2 weeks to be told that TRAQS can’t make an appointment for me? ? There is no “Quality” in this service – it’s a joke! !

Dear Bold911

Thank you for sharing your comments with the TRAQS Team.

TRAQS works in line with the NHS Patient Charter to enable patients to be offered Choice of provider which is every patients right under the Patient Charter.

Before TRAQS was launched in June 2012 patients were not always offered Choice.

TRAQS is able to offer patients the Choice of any NHS hospital within England and many patients have accepted appointments outside their local area to enable them to be seen sooner than at local hospitals.

Your GP can still discuss Choice of hospitals with you and by including this information in the referral letter TRAQS will follow their instructions to direct your referral to a specific

hospital/consultant but that may limit the availablility of appointments that TRAQS are able to offer. All GPs within the Telford and Wrekin area have agreed to refer all patients via TRAQS to ensure that Choice is consistently offered

TRAQS can only process your referral from the date it is received from your GP - this may the cause of the delay you refer to. TRAQS has no control over waiting times for appointments; we offer a choice of location in order to secure the earliest possible appointment and reduce delays where possible. However, As TRAQS rely upon the hospitals to release appointment slots I am sure you can appreciate that if there is limited capacity at the hospital this will affect TRAQS ability to be able to book appointments.

I hope that this information is helpful in explaining how TRAQS works for the benefit of patients within the Telford and Wrekin area. Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments with the TRAQS team. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us to develop the service further for the benefit of the patients registered with GP practices within our area.
