"wonderful care on win and ward"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

A big thank you to all the staff that treated me during my visit to wynard ward for an arranged operation. My consultant and anaesthetist were amazing both before, during and after the operation which did not go to plan. The nurse in recovery also put me at ease. My only concern was that I am a very nervous patient and was completely floored when my partner was not able to stay with me before the operation and I did become very anxious. Despite this I would certainly go back to the royal Devon and Exeter hospital and think the hospital and staff are an asset to Devon.

Thank you very much for your kind comments regarding your stay on Wynard Ward. The concern you raised about being on your own prior to the operation was brought to the attention of the ward Matron. She commented that visiting hours on the ward are restricted in order to protect the privacy and dignity of other patients, given the nature of the surgery they have undergone. There is, however, an area within the ward where patients and their relatives can wait prior to the operation. Matron wishes to offer her sincere apologies that the use of this waiting area was not offered to you and is sorry for the distress and anxiety this obviously caused. Without any further information it is not possible for her to speak directly with the nurse caring for you, but she will make all of the staff working on the ward aware of the issue that you have raised in order to prevent it from happening again. Should you ever have any concerns in future, Matron would encourage you to raise them directly with the nurse in charge on the day. Thank you again for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention, as feedback from our patients and their relatives is invaluable in helping us to improve our services.
