My surgeon asked me to see his colleague for a second opinion on the best surgery option for my ankle pain, as the symptoms didn't quite fit tarsal tunnel syndrome. I saw the second surgeon in fracture clinic at Ashford hospital in Kent. Whilst their opinions and explanations were excellent, the attitude towards me wasn't good. It was suggested slightly different surgery which I am satisfied with. However the surgeon made me feel as if I wanted surgery for the sake of having surgery, rather than to cure my severe pain! The surgeon questioned my use of braces on my hands and fingers, as if they were just for show. (I have been given them by a hand therapist as I have hypermobility syndrome). Then the surgeon sent a letter to my original surgeon describing me as an 'odd character'. This was, I feel, very unprofessional, overly personal, and unacceptable.
