About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

I had my first outpatient appointment in may after a referral from my gp due to abnormal ecgs, suspected pots and breathlessness. However, they have no access to your medical history so I had to explain everything myself. On the day they send you for an ecg, bp and weight check before you see the consultant. Whilst having an ecg, the nurses dont seem to take dignity and respect into account when having an ecg. If you are girl they just expect you to undress from the waist upwards and dont give you anything to cover up with or privacy to get changed which is very embarassing for a 19 year old. Previous tests by my gp were 24 hour monitor where my heart rate was 180 bpm and an echo showing abnormal septal motion and small left sided heart. However, because I was in good sinus rhythm on the day they basically disregarded the findings and did nothing other than a second 48 hour ecg monitor at another appointment. I am 19 years old so I feel that because im so young without any other health problems I am being brushed to the side. Instead of doing any important tests I needed they decided to refer me to a neurologist and see me in october for another check up. The appointment in october was suddenly changed to january as apparently lack of consultants to see me which is apalling. The neurologist at another instead hospital sifted through my complete medical history and told me that they should have done a heart mri linked to abnormal septal motion in heart and a tilt table test to officially diagnose pots. I hope the cardiologists feel a slight embarrasment that a neurologist at another hospital has had to recognise which tests I needed and contacted them regarding. The service has been such a let down that I would never choose to go here fir another outpatient appointment. Although this review is negative, on the positive note the cardiology department is better at managing long term conditions such as heart attacks and cardiomyopathies. So if you want to manage a pre-existing condition, l&d isnt bad but if you are looking for a diagnosis or finding out what is wrong with you then I would advise you not to waste your time with this hospital.
