"Endescope"

About: East Surrey Hospital

I had a endescopy done on the 24/07/14.To say I was stressed out prior to getting there is a understatement! To be very honest I truly believed bad news would come to me I opted for sedation ,but unfortunately due to a family member changing their phone number without my knowledge, the very caring staff informed me that they just could not do it as I needed someone to take me home. The thought of having it without sedation was horrendous to me, I was scared of pain, being sick and choking on my own vomit. There was just no way I could have it. The staff could obviously see my distress at needing to have this done. All I can say is they took precious time to get me to at least try. Everything they said made me believe that I could do it The doctor was amazing, after telling me that he would stop if it hurt to much, and explained that it is uncomfortable, he never tried to tell me it is nothing So the two angel nurses and the doctor that in my mind gave me my life back by telling me I had infection. It had affected my weight drastically because I was unable to eat for three months nearly, maybe a biscuit or banana. Yes it was unpleasant feeling and at times somewhat uncomfortable, but at no time did I feel I was going to scream or anything, had a few moans. How stupid I felt after I just filled with elation that all was ok ,and I have never felt so humble or greatful in all my life ,I will never forget that doctors face or his voice, or the nurses. So to the Doctor and nurses Thank you from the bottom of my heart, now I can live again, and sleep, one day soon I will eat. God bless all of you. If you are going to have this done, please try not to work yourself into a state like I did! If I can do it, wimp that I am at 66 years old, you can. They are there for you every second of the way. Trust them!

Dear Mrs Staple

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback.

The care that we receive as a patient, at time when we are perhaps at our most vulnerable and afraid, can create a lasting impression. None of us know until we are in that position ourselves, how we will react or feel. I appreciate just how difficult the experience must have been for you and so it is very reassuring to read that our nurses and doctors supported you with compassion, empathy and understanding and that this helped you to overcome any fears that you may have had.

I am very pleased that the outcome was such a positive one and I will ensure that I pass your comments on to the team concerned. I am sure they will be delighted.

Kind regards

Maxine May
