Overall my experience of my recent health care is a good one. The health care professionals (Doctors/Nurses/Therapists) are exactly that, professional, and very quickly got to grips both with my medical condition and the fact that I am a ‘veteran’ and the impact that had.
The ONLY real negative in my story concerns the front desk/admin teams; who seem to be totally unsure of the NHS’s own codes of practice relating to the ‘priority’ treatment that should be offered to veterans once they are into “secondary” care.
Sometimes their ignorance and attitude came across as though I was ‘making it all up’ and that the there is no such edict. I think it is incumbent on those in authority to ensure that front desk/telephone reception staff are briefed properly.
