"My elderly mother-in-law who was taken ill whist visiting us"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

My mother-in-law became unwell quite rapidly on a Saturday afternoon and by early evening was breathless, confused and unable to stay awake.

We called our surgery and contacted the emergency number. The service replied promptly and reassured us that a paramedic was on the way. Within twenty minutes she was being examined by a paramedic, who gave her a thorough examination including an ECG. He was very reassuring to a frightened lady of nearly ninety.

The paramedic contacted the ECP to provide mother with some medication to get a chest infection under control. The ECP arrived within the hour and confirmed the chest infection. Both paramedics were extremely professional, courteous and made it their business to reassure the patient.

Happily mother's health improved markedly in the following twenty four hours. Thank you for such wonderful service.

Dear MelF

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your mother-in-law is feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients, and their family members, when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the Paramedic and ECP who came to your mother-in-laws aid.

Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
