"The team gave excellent care"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I had a septoplasty on 14th July, based in Newlyn Unit. I was given about 10 days notice, I understand this was because I was given a cancellation. This was perfect, enough time to prepare, not too much to become very anxious. The Unit was beautifully maintained and very comfortable, large armchairs with plenty of space, not squashed into a bed ward, and very clean and bright. I was seen as soon as I arrived, no hanging around, although this might be because I was the only patient due for an operation that afternoon. The staff, without exception, were wonderful, caring, friendly and efficient, no arrogance here. I wish I could remember their names so I could thank them personally. I remember the staff nurse but can't remember the name of the kindest anaesthetist ever. Nothing was too much trouble to calm my worries so I had complete confidence when I was taken in for the operation. They looked young (because everyone does to me now), but had the wise patience of the most experienced clinician. The consultant who's care I was under and their team are definitely to be recommended. Post op, which was invasive after all, I've had no pain. A little discomfort, no worse than having a cold, and some swelling, almost gone after 5 days. That was the only thing I took paracetamol for. I can only put this down to the skill of the surgeon and maybe the fact that I was so relaxed and confident in the abilities of the staff. If you are reading this because you're having the same procedure, I would suggest you might ask for the leaflet Septoplasty if you don't already have one, also suggest buying in some Sterimar nasal spray and ask post op whether you need Naseptin cream. Lastly, if you are under the care of the team I had (I don't have experience of other consultants but have no reason to expect anything less), you'll be in good hands.

Really good to read how pleased you were with your recent care. We'll make sure your comments are passed onto the team.
