I was diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer in June, following a hysteroscopy & endometrial biopsy. The care I received from Mr Ian D Arthur and his team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital was outstanding.
At every stage along the way my husband and I were involved with all decisions made. There was always plenty of time for questions and I was given phone numbers of people I could contact if I had any concerns. Throughout the whole process I was treated by staff who understood that I was a person who was in a very scary place so was given plenty of reassurance. I knew exactly what would happen when and wherever possible, who would be doing the treatment. Speed was of the essence and it was only 2 weeks between the diagnosis and a total hysterectomy which I was lucky enough to have laparoscopically (key hole surgery). This meant that I was able to come home the day after the surgery.
Post operative care has also been excellent, with Mr Arthur contacting me by phone 2 weeks after the surgery to give me the results of the histology. I have never been ill before and indeed did not even take any medication. However, this meant that the whole process was even more frightening.
With the outstanding professionalism of Mr Arthur and his team, this situation was made much easier to deal with. I have heard so many dreadful stories about the NHS but mine is not one of them. I cannot fault the care I received and will continue to receive for the next 5 years in any way at all. All of this has contributed to a much better outcome in terms of my recovery from major surgery.
Words are not sufficient to express mine and my husband's heartfelt gratitude to Mr Arthur and his team.
