"Total lack of respect for the patient in neurology..."

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

Having managed to get an appt with neurology and turning up 15 minutes before my due appt time I was concerned that a family sitting next to me had been waiting over an hour and nbody had the courtesy to explain what the delay was or how lit would continue. I have a number of co morbidities as well as the condition that led me to be referred to neurology in the first place. If I was able to sit for any length of time without a great deal of discomfort I I probably shouldn't have been referred to neurology in the first place. After 50 mnutes of waiting to see the neurologist Ihad to leave before seeing them. I am aware that sometimes patients requre longer appointment times but come on after all this time hasn't sombody caught on that appointments may have to be adjusted to take this into account. After one patient left - half an hour after another patients appt there was another 25 minutes wait whilst the consultant was in the consulting room without a patient - that's nearly an hour after one patient's appointment time. Yes, they could have been writing up notes but was there anything wrong when one patient left for the consultant to pop thier head out, apologise and give an indication of when they would be able to see the next patient. At least opportunity would be given for patients to go for a welcome cup of coffee. This department is a disgrace and needs a jolt. Let patients know if the clinic is running over and allow them the opportunity to go for a cup of coffee rather than expecting us to wait for hours in extreme disocomfort because nobody has the courtesy to treat patients with a little dignity and respect anymore.

We are really sorry to hear of your disappointing experience of our services and take on board your comments. Obviously we do not have sufficient information to check out whether there was an exceptional reason for this long wait on the date you attended, but we will ensure the department concerned is aware of the issues you raise and hopefully things will be better when you next attend. We are very grateful to you for providing this feedback which is valuable to us and hope you have now rearranged your appointment and that it proves to be much more positive.
