"I went to A & E in an ambulance ..."

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

(as the patient),

What I liked

I went to A & E in an ambulance and it was very busy. I was in agony with an ear problem that was agonising to an enormous extent and made me sick and unbalanced. After initial pain medication didn't work, they acted quickly and did a minor procedure that after a short while was so successful the pain was made bearable and I was able to go home .

I liked the non-nonsense, get on with approach.

I, unlike some people, do recognise that each case needs to be prioritised and my condition was excrutiatingly painful but not life threatening. I was taken through from reception swiftly for initial assessment, but waited until more urgent case was dealt with.

They relieved my pain swiftly and efficiently. That is what I liked!

What could be improved

I think it may have been staff break time as it seemed a little short staffed.

Better staffing could have resulted in my being in pain for less time.

The trust needs to pay for MORE staff for the patients and spend less money on pen pushers.
