"Great care for an 83 year old at Redhill"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My 87 year old mother recently spent almost 3 weeks at the East Surrey Hospital following a road accident. During that time she was cared for by staff in A and E, then later on Ifield and Capel wards. From the moment she arrived at the hospital she was treated with respect, compassion and total professionalism from all the medical and auxiliary staff who dealt with her. She and I were kept fully informed about her condition. Our questions and concerns were dealt with as promptly as possible. My mother was made to feel that she mattered every bit as much as younger, more seriously ill patients. Standards of cleanliness were very good - noticeably much better than in the past. And the meals were also excellent.

My mother intends, when she has recovered further, to write to the Trust's Chief Executive. In the meantime we are pleased to have this opportunity to thank the staff who cared for her, particularly the permanent ward staff on Ifield, and to pass on our appreciation of their kindness and apparently endless good-humour.
