"Referral to the fertility section of harrogate..."

About: Harrogate District Hospital

We were referred by our doctor to seek advice about our fertility issue. We were basically informed that the hospital could not help us and we were only given three options: 1. pay to go private 2. Move house or 3. wait until IVF becomes available in that area. We were then told by the private hospital that harrogate could refer us. When we spoke to Harrogate hospital about this news, they said that the doctor was a locum and did not have the latest information to hand.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about your care with us and I am sorry that you did not feel you were given accurate information. It is true that not all fertility treatments are available on the NHS and this will depend upon where you live because of the way in which the local NHS buys treatments. It may be that the private hospital you spoke to are able to offer treatments not otherwise available, but there may a cost to you involved with this. Nonetheless, it is extremely important that our doctors and nurses are clear in the information and advice that they give to patients and I apologise that this was not explained clearly in your case. If you would like us to investigate this any further, please contact our Patient Experience Team on (01423) 555499 or email thepatientexperienceteam@hdft.nhs.uk Thank you again for getting in touch with us. Yours faithfully Chris Watt Head of Communications Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust
