"Poor Preparation for consultations"

About: Essex County Hospital

Today I visited the Dermatology Dept. for a follow up to an earlier operation of the removal of a skin cancer(BCC) on my back and a check on some existing skin conditions of a similar nature. The nurse required the use of a " ice Gun" for my treatment but found that the ice gun was empty and that she was unable to have it refilled due to staff being on annual leave. She had no alternative than to book me in for another appointment in a month's time. How many appointments are wasted due to this lack of preparation and how many re-booked appointments are made necessary because of this simply lack of good administration. I write this in the hope that a simple system will be put in place that will avoid this unnecessary waste of time and cost and help the patient experience at this hospital.

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the matron to contact you. Could you email me, using the reference “Dermatology at RDEEB-Essex County Hospital at 11/07/2014 16:07:28”, please? Many thanks Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
