"Admitted for a wide local excision of the vulva"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

Fantastic care given pre op and during surgery, an amazing team, worked well to make me feel at ease and relaxed as was very nervous. However aftercare on gynaecology daycare was awful. I was left from 10.30 am until 3 pm before being checked on post op. insulin diabetic, bloodsugar was never checked no water offered, had a spinal so couldn't move, no call button as was out of reach on the wall. Nobody asked if I needed the toilet. Was left to figure out when spinal had wore off by dragging the chair over so I could try and get up. No pain relief given even when distressed. By the time my husband came to pick me up I was in floods of tears, no compassion shown, when husband asked for a wheelchair he was told to go and find one.

Many thanks for providing us with this important feedback regarding your recent experience as a patient here at the Royal Derby Hospital. I was very disappointed to hear that although your pre-operative care and care/treatment provided during your surgery was good, your after care in our Gynaecology Unit was less than satisfactory. We would certainly like to look into these matters further and respond to you more fully and if this is something you would like us to do, then may I ask that you consider contacting our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) to provide them with more specific information so we can assist you further. They can be contacted via FREEPHONE telephone number 0800 783 7691 or via email on dhft.contactpals@nhs.net. Again, can I thank you for taking the time to provide us with your important experience feedback and may I take the opportunity to offer you on behalf of the Trust our sincere apologies for any upset caused on this occasion. We look forward to being able to help you further if you decide to contact our PALS team and in the meantime, may I also wish you and you and your family very best wishes for the future. Kind regards Miss Deborah Furness, member of the Patient Experience Team for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
