"I gave birth to my 3rd daughter ..."

About: The James Cook University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I gave birth to my 3rd daughter in jan 07 at JCUH, my midwife was dedicated, professional and made myself and my partner feel at ease. After my 2nd childs delivery at JCUH i was not impressed but i have seen a huge improvement in the maternity services and give praise to all the staff in the delivery suite. In particular my midwife who made the birth of our daughter all the more special for her support throughout.

Also pleasent student nurses on the ward and very helpful auxillary nurses.

What could be improved

My main complaint was that i waited a considerable length of time to be transfered to the ward after delivery because no member of staff was available to transfer me and when i eventually got to the ward the staff ignored my request for pain relief and i ended up having to disturb the nurses in the staff room to get some pain relief. Also staff change over was early (6.30 am ish?), i was woken by the nurses laughing loudly which i thought was rude and disrespectful. And to add insult to injury, when i read my care notes the nurse had written that i had received pain relief on request.

Thank you for your comments posted on the website. I have forwarded these to the Head of Midwifery and Senior Manager to share with the midwifery staff. The areas of improvement which you have suggested will be discussed with the staff in order to prevent any similar instances in the future.
