"I had surgery at Bishop auckland ..."

About: Bishop Auckland Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had surgery at Bishop auckland hospital on the 20/10/08 and I have no worries about going back there in the future. I was treated with the upmost of respect and the nursing staff on ward 20 were brilliant, they cared about their patients and were not prepared to put your health at risk even if it meant more trouble to them. My surgeon and anaesthetist saw me both before and after my operation and showed genuine care about myself and the treatment I was receiving. I am now currently having physiotherapy from the hospital and after one week my physiotherapist has managed to straighten my arm for the first time in over 15 years. In my opinion the hospital is trying it's hardest to meet the needs of all of it's patients in a time when they are constantly coming up against criticism.

What could be improved

I have no ideas for any improvements after my experience at the hospital.

Anything else?

The staff on Ward 20 have continued to be my source of advice since being discharged as my own doctors surgery did not know what to do when I went to see them, even though they had received details from the hospital the day after my surgery. When I returned to ward 20, 4 days after discharge, they checked my wound and put my worries at ease. This was all done without me feeling as if I was causing any problem to them, even though they were extremely busy. The staff should be supported in the same way that they support and care for the patients in their care.
