"Spiral elbow fracture"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

After been to ane following a road traffic accident I was told I had initially a broken elbow, I was sent to the plaster room and then over the space of seven hours had two different casts on and then six different X-rays. I was then sent to the surgical ward to await theatre the next day, which was cancelled, I was told I would have to then wait to the end of the week as this was dangerous it needed surgery straight away. To spare the details, the surgery was cancelled having gowned me up. I was told that they were too busy so I went home, sent home with paracetamol and codeine and told I was down for surgery Tuesday. I was told I couldn't have nothing stronger. I went back to a&e on Saturday as I was in so much pain my gp wouldn't prescribe me anything stronger, so basically a&e did the same as the first visit - went for X-ray and I had two more pots fitted and was told to come back Tuesday as I had a slot in theatre that afternoon. I turned up this morning to be told I wasn't having my surgery done, then they proceeded to tell me this was a dangerous operation and there was a possibility I could loose feeling in my hand and have nerve damage, I was told the opitions they had discussed for surgery had changed, and I couldn't have them and the four casts been put on had actually made the fracture worse! We complained to the ward sister but I was told they were busy and couldn't promise, but we should go back the next day for surgery. On the way home the hospital rung back to tell us they forgot to get us to sign some paper work and forgot to do some tests.... I'm absolutely disgusted with the service, no one was organised no one knew what was going on and the way we were spoke to was disgusting. We will be taking this further, the only nice thing I have to say was g32 night staff were brilliant and reassuring unfortunately I definitely carnt say this about the rest of the staff, a family member as offered to pay for us to have the surgery private but we declined as surgery could be possible in the morning, we spoke to a few people in the fracture clinic all with the same story... Staff were rude, giving out quotes like it's not my problem I've finish my shift when asked for pain relief and told to dress myself with one arm!

We would be pleased to arrange for this matter to be investigated if the patient would like to contact us directly.
