The patient was visiting her grandaughter in stepping hill hospital when she developed a nose bleed that would not abait. The maternity ward tried to assist but she ended up in A and E and was not offered a towel and her friend had to take paper towels out of the toilet. After 2. 5 hours she was seen by a doctor who packed her nose and transferred her to Whythenshaw Hospital. The patient is a carer for her husband and holds a Derbyshire Carers Emergency Card. She tried to use this to expedite her treatment as she had a sitting service for a short time and this had expired so she felt an urgency to return home to care for her husband. It fortunately transpired that her Grandson could take over from the sitting service and remain until she returned at 12. 30am. The patient has raised this complaint with the Derbyshire County Council to highlight the ineffectiveness of the Emergency card, which she felt was ignored.
