No real information given on Ampney ward after surgery. Staff nurses seem only interested in gathering obs and dispensing pain relief. Wasn't informed where the emergency button was, or the bed controls . Wasn't sure whether I was allowed to get out of bed. No one (normally the surgeon) came to inform me on how the surgery went and the nurses didn't check on the how much i was bleeding. It also took an hour for them to remove my empty drip. I recently had surgery at Birmingham QE where the aftercare was thorough and timely. The Aux Nurses at GWH however were much friendlier and attentive. For any patient who is unaccustomed to recovering on a ward, then GWH is only ok. For those of you that can look after yourself and ask all the necessary questions then there's no problem at all. A standard 2 minute welcome brief when arriving on a ward is essential, especially for nervous first timers.
